Lockwood Watch WhatsApp Group Description
There have been recent reports of attacks targeting ethnic minority individuals and places of worship in parts of the UK, including the attempted burning of an imam's house.
While we have not seen such incidents in Huddersfield, it is important to remain proactive and vigilant.
This WhatsApp group has been set up to share information and alert others in the Lockwood and Thornton Lodge areas (Huddersfield) about anything relevant to local safety, general well being and community vigilance.
Membership is generally restricted to residents of the Lockwood and Thornton Lodge areas of Huddersfield. This ensures the group remains focused on local issues and that all members share a common neighbourhood interest.
Purpose and rules:
All messages must be strictly related to the group’s purpose: sharing safety information, alerts, and community updates relevant to Lockwood and Thornton Lodge areas. This includes:
• Reports of suspicious activity
• Local safety concerns and general wellbeing
• Urgent community alerts
• Useful neighbourhood information
Any message that does not serve this purpose (such as unrelated chats, spam, charity/ donations, political arguments, or personal attacks) is not allowed. Violating these rules may result in removal from the group to keep it effective and trustworthy for everyone.

Friendly Advice to the Lockwood Watch WhatsApp Group
Before you send a message, please pause for a moment and think about its effect on the group. Will it bring good, or will it potentially cause harm and possible division?
Whenever you interact with another individual, it is an opportunity to get closer to your goal of success. True success is not found in overpowering others, but in softening hearts through good akhlaq, smile, sincere advice, sharing knowledge, or showing patience. To bring out the good from within others. Always try to leave behind a trace of light in every encounter.
Always try to advise people gently and wisely, at least initially. Remind yourself that every word and every action is recorded, and we stand before Allah SWT to be held accountable for each and every act.
We should strive to try to ensure that everything we say and do is grounded in our Faith. There are no exceptions to this rule.
A strong community is not built by anger or blame, but by mercy, respect, and a sincere desire for one another’s good. Sometimes the most powerful change is not forced by law, but inspired from within the heart.
If you do end up in a discussion/ debate it is sometimes better to say nothing even when you are in the right. God Almighty will reward you for that.
Let us try to build each other up, not tear each other down. Real change lasts when it comes from the heart. Let us try to become better Muslims, better people, and better neighbours.

Issues Raised within the Group
1. Use Mount Pleasant School Playground during school holidays
23rd June 2026
The possibility of making the Mount pleasant school playground available to local children during the the summer holidays was raised and being looked into my one of the Group members with local Councillor support.
This would be useful for future school holidays.
2. Fly-Tipping
Fly-tipping in the locality has been mentioned and discussed. Some of the images posted on the Group are below to illustrate the nature and extent of the problem. Making public spaces filthy is a serious offence in Islam.

2.1. An Effort to Evaluate the Problem of Fly-Tipping
Besides reporting the illegal dumping of waste in public places to Kirklees Council following suggestion was made:
Suggestions:
1.The Council should consider investigating / research into the root cause of the issue in the Lockwood area.
2. The local councillors could collaborate with local mosques to host community clean-up days.
3. The local mosques should launch an educational campaign, at Jummah bayans, focusing on religious responsibility (and accountability) toward the local community and the environment.
4. The local mosques should consider teaching a "eco-Islam" to the kids in the madrassahs.
2.2. How to Report Fly-Tipping to Generate a Hotspot Tracking Map
If you spot dumped waste (furniture, black bags, etc.) on your street or public space in our neighbourhood:
Step 1: Take a quick photo of the dumped rubbish and send to this WhatsApp group.
Step 2: Tap clip📎 icon and then tap "Send Current location" 
icon, and send or add location as text to the photo.
Do NOT tap "Share Live location"

The following information for the last five years has been requested from Kirklees Council as of 20th July 2026
- Fly-tipping reports and locations
- Monthly numbers of recorded fly-tipping incidents.
- Locations of reported incidents (street name, postcode sector or ward level, where available).
- Complaints, reporting and clearance
- Number of complaints/reports relating to fly-tipping or illegal dumping.
- Average time taken from reporting to clearance.
- Any available data on clearance performance against service targets.
- Waste and recycling services
- Waste and recycling collection frequencies.
- Numbers of missed collections recorded.
- Number of reactive clearances of dumped waste undertaken.
- Enforcement activity
- Number of investigations undertaken.
- Number of fixed penalty notices issued.
- Number of prosecutions and outcomes relating to fly-tipping.
- Changes to services
- Copies of any documents, reports, consultations or service notices relating to changes during the last five years affecting:
- waste collection services;
- bulky waste charges;
- household waste recycling centre access;
