نماز کی جگہ سے آگے مسجد کا کردار
It’s easy to see the masjid as simply a place for daily prayers and Friday gatherings. But history and our own tradition show us that the masjid is meant to be so much more. It is the beating heart of the Muslim community, a place where faith and action meet, and where the challenges of the day are faced together, guided by the light of the Qur’an and Sunnah.
The Masjid: A Centre of Life and Leadership
Let’s recall the example set by the Prophet Muḥammad (
) in Madinah. His masjid was not just a prayer hall. It was a school, a court, a shelter, and a council chamber. The poor and homeless, like the Ashab al-Suffah, found refuge there. The sick were tended to, and delegations from distant lands were welcomed within its walls. When Madinah faced a crisis, the masjid was the first place people turned to for guidance and support.
This is not just history; it’s a blueprint for what our masājid can and should be. In times of hardship whether it’s the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Palestine, or the challenges our own youth face here at home, the masjid must be a place where the community comes together, learns, plans, and acts.
The Friday Khutbah: More Than a Ritual
Every week, the Friday khutbah gives us a unique chance to reach the hearts and minds of our community. This is not a time for routine reminders, or a nice story time, or endless fundraising appeals. The minbar is a place of leadership. The Prophet ﷺ used it to address the most pressing issues of his time, to call for justice, to warn against wrongdoing, and to inspire hope and action.
When the community faces a crisis like the ongoing tragedy in Palestine, or the rise of Islamophobia in our own neighbourhoods, the khutbah should be a source of clarity and direction. It should inform, educate, and mobilise. The congregation deserves to hear how our faith guides us to respond: with compassion, with lawful and peaceful activism, and with unwavering commitment to justice.
The Need for Knowledgeable, Thoughtful Khateebs
It is vital that those who deliver the khutbah are not just good speakers who can speak English, but they should be well-grounded in Islamic knowledge and aware of the world around them. Our community needs leaders who can connect the teachings of the Qur’an and the life of the Prophet () to the issues we face today. The khutbah should challenge us to think, to care, and to act, not just move us emotionally with stories, but equip us with understanding and purpose.
The Masjid as a Community Anchor
Let’s not limit our vision for what the masjid can be. Beyond serving as a place of worship, the masjid has the potential to become a true centre of learning, offering regular classes and workshops for people of all ages, helping us deepen our understanding of both our faith and the world around us. It can serve as a hub for charity, efficiently organising the distribution of zakat and sadaqah and providing meaningful support to those in need, whether they are close to home or in distant communities.
The masjid should also be a safe space, offering comfort and assistance to the vulnerable, the lonely, and anyone facing hardship. By creating opportunities for youth and women to participate and lead, the masjid can become a vibrant platform where every member of the community feels valued and empowered. Finally, the masjid can act as a bridge to wider society, fostering good relations with neighbours and people of other faiths, and standing up for justice and the common good. In this way, the masjid truly fulfils its role as the heart of the community, guiding and uplifting all who enter its doors.
A Sacred Trust
The Prophet () said, “The most beloved places to Allah are the masājid.” (Muslim) This is an honour, but also a responsibility. Those who have taken on the management of their local masjid are the stewards of a profound trust. The community looks to you for deliver on that trust, especially in times of crisis.
Let’s make our masājid places where the community finds not just prayer, but purpose. Where the khutbah is a call to action, and the doors are open to all who seek knowledge, support, or a sense of belonging.
The ummah needs strong, visionary masjid leadership now more than ever. Let’s honour the legacy of the Prophet’s masjid and make our own masājid true beacons of hope, unity, and positive change. May Allah grant our masājid managements the wisdom and strength in fulfiling the trust.

ہم اکثر مسجد کو صرف نماز کی جگہ یا جمعے کے اجتماعات کی حد تک محدود سمجھتے ہیں۔ مگر ہماری تاریخ اور دینی روایت ہمیں بتاتی ہے کہ مسجد صرف عبادت کا مقام نہیں، بلکہ امتِ مسلمہ کا دل ہے—وہ جگہ جہاں ایمان اور عمل ملتے ہیں، اور جہاں دورِ حاضر کے چیلنجوں کا سامنا قرآن و سنت کی روشنی میں اجتماعی طور پر کیا جاتا ہے۔
مسجد: زندگی اور قیادت کا مرکز
آئیے مدینہ منورہ کی اُس مسجد کا تصور کریں جسے نبی کریم ﷺ نے قائم فرمایا۔ وہ صرف نماز کی ادائیگی کا مقام نہ تھی، بلکہ ایک مدرسہ، عدالت، پناہ گاہ اور مشاورت کا مرکز تھی۔ اصحابِ صفہ جیسے غریب اور بے سہارا لوگ وہیں قیام کرتے تھے۔ مریضوں کا علاج بھی وہیں ہوتا، اور بیرونی وفود کا خیرمقدم بھی اسی مسجد میں کیا جاتا۔ جب مدینہ کسی آزمائش یا بحران کا شکار ہوتا، تو سب سے پہلے لوگ مسجد کا رخ کرتے۔
یہ محض ایک تاریخی حقیقت نہیں، بلکہ آج کی ہماری مساجد کے لیے ایک عملی نمونہ ہے۔ چاہے فلسطین میں ہمارے بھائیوں کی تکلیف ہو یا یہاں ہمارے نوجوانوں کو درپیش مشکلات—مسجد وہ جگہ ہونی چاہیے جہاں کمیونٹی جمع ہو، سیکھے، حکمت عملی بنائے اور عمل کرے۔
جمعے کا خطبہ: ایک دعوتِ عمل
ہر جمعہ ہمیں ایک قیمتی موقع دیتا ہے کہ ہم اپنی کمیونٹی کے دل و دماغ تک رسائی حاصل کریں۔ یہ وقت صرف روایتی نصیحتوں، قصے کہانیوں یا چندہ جمع کرنے کے لیے نہیں ہوتا۔ منبر قیادت کی علامت ہے، اور نبی کریم ﷺ نے اس پلیٹ فارم کو عدل کی دعوت، برائی سے خبردار کرنے اور امت کو اُمید و عمل کی راہ دکھانے کے لیے استعمال فرمایا۔
جب امت کسی آزمائش سے گزر رہی ہو—چاہے وہ فلسطین کا جاری المیہ ہو یا اپنے علاقوں میں بڑھتی ہوئی اسلاموفوبیا—تو خطبہ وضاحت، رہنمائی اور حوصلہ افزائی کا ذریعہ ہونا چاہیے۔ خطبہ ہمیں یہ بتائے کہ ہمارا دین ہمیں کیسے جواب دینے کی تعلیم دیتا ہے: ہمدردی، پُرامن قانونی طریقوں، اور عدل کی راہ پر ثابت قدمی کے ساتھ۔
علم و حکمت سے بھرپور خطیبوں کی ضرورت
یہ لازم ہے کہ خطبہ دینے والے صرف اچھے مقرر یا انگریزی زبان پر عبور رکھنے والے نہ ہوں، بلکہ وہ اسلامی علوم میں راسخ اور عصر حاضر کے حالات سے باخبر ہوں۔ ہمیں ایسے رہنما درکار ہیں جو قرآن و سنت کی روشنی میں ہمارے موجودہ مسائل کا حل پیش کر سکیں۔ خطبہ نہ صرف جذبات کو جگائے بلکہ فکر، احساس، اور عمل کی تحریک بھی دے۔ ساتھ ہی وہ شعور، حکمت اور مقصدیت کا ذریعہ بنے۔
مسجد: ایک سماجی مرکز
آئیے! مسجد کو صرف نماز کی جگہ نہ سمجھیں۔ یہ ایک ایسا مرکز بن سکتی ہے جہاں ہر عمر کے افراد کے لیے باقاعدہ دروس، کلاسز اور ورکشاپس ہوں، تاکہ ہم دین کو اور دنیا کو بہتر طور پر سمجھ سکیں۔ یہ صدقات و زکٰوۃ کی منظم تقسیم کا بھی مرکز ہو، اور حاجت مندوں کی—چاہے وہ قریبی ہوں یا دور افتادہ—بروقت اور مؤثر مدد فراہم کی جائے۔
مسجد ایک محفوظ پناہ گاہ ہو، جہاں کمزور، تنہا یا کسی مشکل کا شکار افراد سکون اور سہارا پائیں۔ نوجوانوں اور خواتین کو شرکت اور قیادت کے مواقع دے کر مسجد کو ایک متحرک اور مربوط مرکز بنایا جا سکتا ہے جہاں ہر فرد خود کو اہم، معزز اور شامل سمجھے۔ مزید یہ کہ مسجد معاشرے میں ہم آہنگی، بین المذاہب حسن سلوک، اور عدل و خیر کے فروغ کی بنیاد بھی بنے۔
ایک مقدس امانت
نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا
"اللہ کے نزدیک سب سے پسندیدہ جگہیں مساجد ہیں۔" (صحیح مسلم)
یہ ایک عظیم اعزاز ہے، مگر اس کے ساتھ ایک بھاری ذمہ داری بھی وابستہ ہے۔ جو لوگ مساجد کے انتظامات سنبھالتے ہیں وہ ایک مقدس امانت کے امین ہیں، اور امت ان کی طرف رہنمائی کے لیے دیکھتی ہے، خاص طور پر آزمائش کے وقت۔
آئیے! ہم اپنی مساجد کو صرف عبادت کا مقام نہ بنائیں، بلکہ مقصد، بصیرت، اور خدمت کا مرکز بنائیں—جہاں خطبہ صرف ایک تقریر نہ ہو، بلکہ عمل کی دعوت ہو۔ جہاں ہر طالب علم، ہر ضرورت مند، اور ہر اجنبی کو علم، سہارا، اور اپنائیت میسر آئے۔
آج امت کو ایسے رہنماؤں کی شدید ضرورت ہے جو بصیرت، اخلاص اور دردِ دل کے ساتھ قیادت کا حق ادا کریں۔ آئیے! نبی ﷺ کی مسجد کے نقشِ قدم پر چل کر، اپنی مساجد کو امید، اتحاد، اور مثبت تبدیلی کا مرکز بنائیں۔
اللہ تعالیٰ ہماری مساجد کے منتظمین کو اس عظیم امانت کو حسنِ انجام تک پہنچانے کی توفیق، حکمت اور قوت عطا فرمائے۔ آمین۔
